DNS leak test
DNS leak test: who answers your DNS queries?
Every website you open starts with a DNS lookup. If you use a VPN but those lookups still go to your internet provider, your browsing is exposed — that’s a DNS leak. This test reveals the resolvers your browser really uses.
How this test works
A web page can’t read your DNS settings directly. Instead, your browser looks up several random, never-used hostnames on a test domain. Whichever DNS resolver handles those lookups has to ask the test domain’s own nameserver — which records the resolver’s IP address. We then fetch that record.
The test uses the free public collectors at bash.ws(with ipleak.net as a backup), so those services see the test lookups. Resolver locations come from the same IP database as our IP lookup.
If your browser uses “Secure DNS” (DNS-over-HTTPS), the results show that provider’s servers, because they — not your operating system — resolve your browsing.
Ready when you are
The test takes about 5 seconds. Connect your VPN first if you want to check it.
